WRENTHAM — The Wakefield High girls’ cross country team took the top spot at the Frank Mooney Coaches Invitational on Nov. 1 at the Wrentham Developmental Center.
The Warriors took 1st as a team with 78 points in the Junior/Senior Small School Division. Bromfield finished with the same number of points but were short of Wakefield by .01 seconds. They were followed by Melrose (85), Whitinsville Christian (90) and Grafton (97).
Junior Quin Wilcox (3rd overall, 18:35) and freshman Lillian McLean (25th, 21:10) both medaled and finished as the top two finishers for the Warriors.
Junior Peyton Knowles (42nd, 21:59), senior Abby Richardson (57th, 22:29), junior Riley Mitchell (61st, 22:38), junior Lisa Letchford (71st, 23:04) and senior Yongyi Zhao (90th, 23:40) finished up the scoring in a race that included 155 runners.
All Warriors had personal-bests on the Wrentham course.
Wakefield put together an impressive 3rd-place finish at the state championship meet on Saturday. A full story will appear later this week.
