NORTH READING — Senior co-captains Leo Romanski and Conrad Gerber were the two North Reading High golfers to make the Cape Ann League First-Team All-Stars this fall.

They made the first team by finishing in the top half of the Cape Ann League Open last month at Far Corner in West Boxford. The bottom half were the CAL Second-Team All-Stars.

Romanski, who won the event last year, was 4th this year while Gerber came in 9th place.

“Leo started off slow this season but got going later on,” said Hornets head coach Jon Kiniry, as Romanski made the team for the second year in a row. “He is a very even-keeled player and averaged 40 for a score.”

Romanski, in the league’s Stableford scoring system, averaged 28 points per match.

For Gerber, it was his first postseason honor.

“Conrad was our medalist for most of our matches this year,” pointed out Kiniry, who just finished his second year at the helm. “He worked hard over the summer at his game and was our most consistent player at home and on the road.”

Gerber averaged 31 points per match and averaged a score of 38 per round.

In the regular season, the Hornets went 1-12 as nearly their entire starting roster was turned over from last year’s 10-1 Cape Ann League Kinney Division title team in which Romanski and Gerber played prominent roles in.
