LYNNFIELD — Former Lynnfield football captain and Salve Regina freshman linebacker Drew Balestrieri was named Rookie Defensive Player of the Week by the New England Football Conference (NEFC) for his stellar play in a 45-12 Seahawk win over Maine Maritime November 12.
Balestrieri racked up a dozen tackles, 11 of them solo stops, including a tackle for a loss.
A member of four straight Pioneer CAL championship teams, Balestrieri has been playing special teams for the Seahawks’ varsity (8-1) with occasional work at linebacker.
Against Maine Maritime, Balestrieri rotated in as a starter and led the Seahawks in tackles. For the year, he has 17 tackles and one assist.
