Lady Hornets tennis moves to 7-3 with wins over Triton and Rockport

NORTH READING — The NRHS girls’ tennis team earned their first match sweep of the season as they dismantled the Triton Vikings 5-0 on May 7.  

Senior tri-captain Tia Campagna only dropped one game at first singles and coasted 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Ava Czarnota impressed at second singles with an easy win in two sets 6-3, 6-3 and at third singles junior Kylie Scher cruised 6-1, 6-0.

Senior tri-captains Megan Landers and Alexa Galuppo took care of business at first doubles in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. At second doubles, junior Jillian Coveney and senior Haley MacIntyre won a tight two-setter 7-6, 6-3. 

Roll Over Rockport 4-1

The Hornets picked up their third win in four matches with a convincing 4-1 home victory over the Rockport Vikings on May 9.

At first singles, Tia Campagna had another easy straight set win 6-0, 6-1. Kylie Scher was never challenged at second singles and only lost one game 6-1, 6-0. At third singles, Megan Landers picked up a win in her first career singles match 6–1, 6-3.

Alexa Galuppo and Haley MacIntyre teamed up at first doubles and took the match 6-0, 6-4. At second doubles, junior Christina Lasdin made her varsity debut alongside Jillian Coveney and suffered a 6-1, 6-1 defeat. 

Stung by Lynnfield 4-1 

On Friday, the Lynnfield Pioneers beat the Hornets for the second time this season this time by a 4-1 margin.

The lone win came at second singles where Kylie Scher won her third match in a row in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. The other four matches were straight set defeats for NRHS.

North Reading traveled to Amesbury on Wednesday after press time and host Malden on Thursday at 4 p.m.
