MELROSE — Arnold C. Wilson, 87, longtime Melrose resident, died Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Chestnut Woods in Saugus with his family by his side.
Arnold was born on May 31, 1931 in Malden, to the late Swedish immigrants Henry and Anna (Johnson) Wilson. Arnold served in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He was married to Barbara J. (Ogilvie) Wilson for 46 years until her death in 1999.
Arnold was a sheet metal worker and proud member of Local #17 for many years before his retirement.
He was also a member of the Lt. Norman Prince VFW Post #1506 in Melrose, and the Malden Moose. Arnold enjoyed being active in his community, and coached a number of little league teams, as well as youth hockey. Golfing and fly fishing were favorite pastimes as well as traveling in their motor home, and he always looked forward to trips to Scandinavia as he was proud of his Swedish heritage.
Family was most important to Arnold. He and Barbara went everywhere together, and the family always looked forward to holiday get togethers.
In addition to his wife, Barbara he is predeceased by his siblings, Roy, Herbert and Edgar Wilson and Gertrude Andren.
He leaves his children Donna J. Pietropaolo (Peter) of Medford, Terri A. Howe (Joseph) of Melrose, Eric B. Wilson (Anne) of Melrose; his grandchildren, Lee A. Ames (Timothy), George J. Bernard IV, Christopher and Maria Wilson; his great-grandchildren Casey and Charlie Ames; his sister-in-law Mildred Wilson of Iowa; nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends gathered in honor of Arnold’s during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, August 31, followed by his funeral service. Burial with military honors followed in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
