WAKEFIELD — A 33-year-old Saugus man will be going to court to face motor vehicle-related charges after police ran the registration of an SUV in the parking lot at 7Eleven at about 8:30 last night.
The plate on the 2007 Ford Expedition came back to a Toyota Highlander. Police determined that the Ford’s registration had been revoked for insurance reasons.
The driver will be summonsed to court for operating a motor vehicle with a revoked registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and attaching a number plate not assigned to the vehicle.
Police had the Ford Expedition towed.
There were no reported injuries, but one driver was cited and one vehicle was towed following a crash at Vernon and Lowell streets last Friday at about 8 a.m.
Police said that a 2016 Ford F450 driven by a Wakefield man was approaching the intersection on Lowell Street and a 2014 Toyota RAV4 driven by a New Hampshire woman was approaching from Vernon Street when the two vehicles collided. The driver of the Ford truck was issued a citation for a red light violation. The Toyota had to be towed from the scene.

At about 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, police, firefighters and Action Ambulance responded to a two-car crash in the area of Main and Green streets. Police said that a 2013 Toyota RAV4 driven by a Wakefield man was attempting to turn into a driveway on Main Street when it was rear-ended by a 2016 Ford Taurus driven by a Melrose man. Neither driver was injured, but the Fire Department and Action Ambulance were called to check on a toddler in one of the vehicles. The toddler also appeared to be uninjured.

At about 6 p.m. Saturday a caller reported trespassers at the Water Department treatment plant on Broadway. Police sent the individuals on their way.

Police were called to Sweetbay in the downtown Sunday around 1:45 p.m. after a woman reportedly shoplifted a blue shirt from the store. The culprit was described as a white female with long dark hair wearing jeans and a black shirt. She was last seen walking on Lincoln Street, toward Crescent Street. Police checked the area but were unable to locate the woman.

The Fire Department responded to 29 calls over the weekend, of which 19 were for medical aid.
At about 2 p.m. on Friday, a Wakefield crew went to cover a Fire Station in Woburn during a two-alarm fire in that city.At about 5:45 p.m. on Friday, firefighters were called to a North Avenue home for a fire in a toaster. The homeowner used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. Firefighters vented the residence of smoke and made sure that the fire had not extended beyond the appliance.At about 6:45 p.m., firefighters were called to Franklin Street after a vehicle apparently spilled hydraulic fluid. Firefighters spread absorbent to soak up the fluid.This morning at about 9:20, the Fire Department went to Wakefield Memorial High School on a report of a slight odor of gas in the kitchen area. No dangerous level of gas was detected and the the MGLD was called in to address the issue.
