PEABODY — Dorothy L. (Coburn) Bachelder, 77, of Peabody and formerly of Wakefield, died Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the Kaplan Estates in Peabody following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late David Bachelder Sr.

Born in Woburn, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Mary (Hart) Coburn. She was raised and educated in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, class of 1959. She has lived in Peabody for the past two years.

Dorothy was a legal secretary in the insurance industry and was employed over the years by American Mutual, Wassau and John Hancock in Wakefield and Boston before she retired years ago.

She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and ballroom dancing and attended Arthur Murray in Burlington. She was an avid reader and a longtime member of the Wakefield Elks as well.

Dorothy is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Holly Staples of Peabody and David Staples and Sara Jean Harrison of Md., her brother, Richard Coburn and his wife Susan of Merrimack, her three sisters, Barbara Croucher of Minn., Eleanor Vasey of Kan., and Margorie Aucella of Minn. and her loving grandson, Alex Staples. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody and her funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
