Swim girls compete among the best

Melrose shines at Div. 2 State Finals

MELROSE—The Melrose High girl’s swim team wrapped up their season in fine style: with an appearance at the Div. 2 State Finals held at M.I.T. on Sunday. 

Representing Melrose were a Super Six: Milania Saggese, Lucy Tyson, Grace Haseltine, Abby Gauch, Madeline Brodeur and Courtney Casey. 

Melrose kicked off the day with 200 medley relay and the quartet of Saggese, Haseltine, Tyson and Gauch earned a best time of 208.38. In the 100 butterfly, Lucy Tyson also had her best time with a finish of 1:05.85. Tyson and teammate Milania Saggese also qualified to swim individually in the 100 backstroke, placing 19th and 20th respectively, with their best times of 1:06.73 and 1:06.98. 

Melrose also qualified two more relays teams at this prestigious event and both performed well. Melrose was represented in the 400 relay by Lucy Tyson, Madeline Brodeur, Grace Haseltine and Abby Gauch and they finished at 4:10.14. And the team’s 200 free relay team consisting of Courtney Casey, Madeline Brodeur, Grace Haseltine and Abby Gauch finished 1:53.93. 

This season the team says goodbye to 8 seniors including their captains Katie Tully and Emily Boutchia, along with Emily Holloran, Alessia Pari, Allison Stoelzel, Lili Sullivan, Jenna Thorpe and Cam Werner.
