WAKEFIELD — Building off what has become a yearly theme for the Wakefield High volleyball team, the 2019 Warriors again set a program record for wins, getting nine this season.

Wakefield’s continued improvement in head coach Sasha Duprey’s third year, nearly culminated in a playoff appearance. The Warriors were in the mix for the postseason late in the regular season, something no other Wakefield volleyball team can say.
The seniors, captains Maddie Melanson, Katie Pearl and Jordyn Pugsley, along with Maddie Burke, Kayleigh Callanan, Abbie Coughlin and Rachel McNall, helped the Warriors continue to turn a corner this season.
Special awards were presented at the banquet by Duprey and the coaching staff.
Offensive Player of the Year went to Katie Pearl. Her 165 kills led the team. She was also second with 26 service aces and second with 167 digs and 284 serve receptions.

Defensive Player of the Year was awarded to Jordyn Pugsley. She led the team with 248 digs and 444 serve receptions. She was also third in assists with 16 and third in service aces with 23.
The Most Improved Player Award was earned by Maddie Melanson. She was second in kills with 111 and second in blocks with 18.
The Warrior Award was presented to Rachel McNall. McNall provided the best highlight of the season on Oct. 21 during the team’s Dana-Farber fundraiser game in honor of her mother Jennifer McNall. Rachel gave a heartfelt speech before the game, thanking a sellout crowd for their support as the Warriors raised over $5,000 for Dana-Farber. On the court, McNall collected 121 serve receptions and 79 digs to help anchor the back line.
