MELROSE — Margaret C. “Maggie” Ferrick-Manley, 65, a resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Born in Melrose on July 12, 1954, Maggie was one of seven children of the late Henry F. Ferrick and Genevieve C. (O’Mara) Ferrick. She was raised in Malden where she graduated from Malden High School. In August 1983, she was married to Malden native, Stephen Manley, and they settled in Melrose in 1987 to raise a family of two children. For many years, Maggie worked in the Malden public schools as a teacher and Reading Specialist.
Maggie and her six brothers and sisters shared a deep family bond that endured throughout life. Three of the Ferrick children settled on the same street in Melrose, and they raised their families together, sharing holidays, laughter and life events. Maggie dedicated herself to her family, and took pride in the responsibility of raising her two children. Organized and meticulous, Maggie always stayed cool, calm and collected and never raised her voice.
In her free time, Maggie enjoyed travel, especially to Cape Cod to her brother’s house in Dennis when their children were young. She found joy in the outdoors with frequent walks in the neighborhood, and enjoyed filling her window boxes with flowers every summer. Maggie was also an avid reader, but was happiest when surrounded by her family. She will be deeply missed, but always remembered for her deep devotion to her family.
Maggie was the beloved wife of Stephen Ferrick-Manley with whom she shared 36 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Christopher Ferrick-Manley of Melrose, and Julia Ferrick-Manley of San Diego. Cherished sister of Francis X. Ferrick and his wife Karen of Melrose, Joan Erickson and her husband William of Melrose, Henry G. Ferrick of Malden, Genevieve C. Ferrick of Malden, Martin J. Ferrick and his wife Laura Avila of Maine, and the late Mary C. Ferrick and her surviving husband Tom Starkey of Calif.
Loving aunt of Erin Brown and her husband Dave of Ipswich, Kristen Erickson and her husband Jeff Chernow of Chicago, Emily Danielson and her husband Chris of Melrose, Michael Erickson and his wife Veronica of Calif., Maxim Ferrick and his wife Anne of Maine, Matthew Starkey and his wife Jackie of Calif., Elizabeth Starkey of Calif., Janelle Walsh of N.Y., and Justin Walsh and his wife Kirstie of N.Y. Dear sister-in-law of Deborah Lee Walsh and her late husband Bob of N.Y. Caring niece of Barbara Manley of Reading, and her extended family. Also survived by a host of loving cousins, and dear friends.
Relatives and friends will be invited to a memorial Mass at a date and time to be announced.
