Former music director at the Bethlehem School

NEEDHAM — Margaret A. “Peggy” (Thomas) Hansen, 90, formerly of Lynnfield, passed away on April 10, 2020, in Needham at Briarwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Peggy was born in Boston on Oct. 6, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Edward R. and Margaret F. (Sawyer) Thomas.

She spent her early years in Winthrop and was educated at Cushing Academy and Colby Jr. College. She married the love of her life, Andrew “Andy” Hansen, after World War II and together they settled in Lynnfield to raise a family.

Peggy was a retired piano teacher, and previously worked as the music director for the Bethlehem School in Lynnfield. She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lynnfield, and served in many positions over the years and thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship and activities in the choir. She looked forward every year to spending time vacationing with her family in Wellfleet.

Peggy is survived by her son Stephen S. Hansen and his wife Maria (Wagner) Hansen of Vestal, New York; and her brother Richard Thomas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Joan L. Moreton and her husband Rob Stone; Jens C. Hansen and wife Rita (Bazzari) Hansen; Laura C. Hansen; Andrew C. Hansen; Christopher B. Hansen; Daniel A. Hansen and his wife Jennifer (Reissig) Hansen; Edward C. Hansen and his wife Rachel (Bounds) Hansen; and Matthew T. Hansen. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Riley, Mia, Arianna, Everly, and Zoe Hansen. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Peggy was predeceased by her husband Andy Hansen; her son Edward T. “Ted” Hansen; her daughter Deborah J. (Hansen) Moreton; and her sister Joan E. (Thomas) Gilchrist.

Services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
