Majors:

Cardinals 11 Red Sox 4

Monday Aug. 10, Lewis Monk Field

Thomas Santoriello pitched two strong innings for the Red Sox. Max Lanciani hurled three keeping the Cards off the scoreboard and Marcus Ruelle faced the last four Cardinals batters holding them to one hit. Justin Santoriello and Cole Matthews anchored the Red Sox defense splitting time behind the plate. Tanner Kovacs and Ricky Texeira both made nice catches in the outfield and Wes Cunningham contributed with great defensive play. Minor call up Jed Drogan contributed with a hit along with Lanciani, Ruelle, Matthews and J. Santoriello. T. Santoriello laced a double in the 1st inning.

The Red Sox scrapped together two runs in the 2nd and the 4th.

Brayden Pesce started on the hill for the Cardinals going two strong, allowing two runs.

Wes Rosell followed with two runs over the next three innings and William Beach closed it out on 17 pitches in the 6th. Cardinals aggressive base running was what hurt the Red Sox in this one.  Brady Yee, Nate Geer, Chris Repici and Wes Rosell all scored twice before the 3rd inning.  Ben Dugan, John Strong and Alec Truesdale touched home in the same time frame. Jack Sarazen, Nolan Clark and Came Orlandella played great defense, helping the cause by tracking down fly balls in the outfield. Geer went 3 for 3, Pesce had two hits.  Yee and Rosell hit safely as well.

The score doesn’t reflect the effort of the Red Sox.  A few tough bounces and heads up base running from the Red Birds keep the Cards out of the loss column.

Cardinals 13 Athletics 5

Wednesday Aug. 12, Lewis Monk Field

This was the regular season finale and 3rd meeting of these two squads. Both teams have earned a first round bye in the playoffs which begin August 19.

The Cards first six batters pushed across two runs in the top half of the 1st inning.  Brady Yee, Chris Repici, Ben Dugan, Wes Rosell and Brayden Pesce all had hits.  Nate Geer and Dugan each scored. William Beach, Cam Orlandella and Nolan Clark drew walks in the 2nd.  Beach scored off a John Strong single.

The A’s came out firing in Home half of the 1st, responding with three runs on hits from Brody MacMaster, Jack Thompson, Nick Berry and Bowden Dormer.  Nicholas Picariello smacked a double for the big hit in the inning.

Repici led off the 4th with a single as did Rosell and both would score.  Pesce was HBP and Jack Sarazen reached first on a fielder’s choice.  Both would score as well.

Cadel McKeown started the game for the A’s and pitched three strong innings.  Nick Berry relieved McKeown in the 4th and finished the game. Dylan Mestjian, Joseph Fauci and Nate Sullivan played solid D to keep the A’s hopes alive. The A’s scored only two more runs the remainder of the game.

Geer made a heads-up play in the outfield and Yee, Dugan, Pesce and Sarazen made real nice plays in the field. John Strong went 3 for 3 on the night leading the Cards offense. Orlandella had another RBI and Alec Truesdale laced a nice double to opposite field. Clark had a single and Beach drew 2 walks.

Beach pitched two solid innings until Repici took the hill in the 3rd allowing one hit and striking out nine A’s to finish the game. Cardinals finish regular season 10-0-1, nice stat but meaningless once the playoffs start.

Marlins 12 Dodgers 6

Friday Aug. 14, Conant Field

The Marlins and Dodgers played a long, hard-fought game on Friday, Aug. 14th to close out the regular season. Likewise, the Dodgers had Bryson Penrose, and Ian Mckeown (seven combined strikeouts) throwing hard for the big blue wrecking crew. Chris Beaudet, Derek Falasca, and Seth Levine all did their jobs on defense with putouts at third base and the outfield.

Jack and Jayden Jangro had catches to rob the Dodgers of extra base hits, while Matty Beshel and Brian Fogarty made plays in the middle of the diamond for the Marlins holding back the powerful Dodger offense.

Cavan O’Leary pitched well in relief for the Red Sox coming into the game with the bases loaded in the second and only allowing one run to score. He then pitched a clean 3rd and 4th inning to earn the win. Tanner Kovas provided solid defense for the Red Sox. Pitcher Brian Capodilupo and battery mate Colton Sullivan went the last three innings for the Pale Hose to quiet the Red Sox bats.
