MELROSE—In Melrose Little League action, playoffs kicked off this month and saw the minor league Giants prevail as victors in the championship.
On September 11 and 13 the Giants bested the previously undefeated Tigers in the final two games of the season to become the Champions of the Melrose Little League Minors division.
The first of the two games took place over 2 days (9/10/20 and 9/11/20) due to a rain delay. Despite the delay, the Giants were able to maintain their 9-5 win over the Tigers, with the help of Jed Drogan’s starting pitching, Drew Annese and Miles Reddall’s holding of the lead in the middle innings, and Luke Greenberg’s save. Tyler Walsh had 3 RBIs for the game, while Oden Broberg, Ryan Philbin, and Eamon Pearce all scored runs to help win the game, as well.
On Sept. 13, Jed started the game and was relieved by Miles Reddall and Luke Greenberg yet again, to finish off the win for the final game of the season, 8-5. It only took Luke 5 pitches to complete the save! Another highlight of the win was a great catch by Jackson Leonard in center field to close out the 5th inning. While Jared St. Hilaire contributed significantly over the course of the season to help the Giants get to the Championship, unfortunately, due to a late-season injury, he was not able to participate in the final 2 games. However, he did cheer the Giants on to help them finish on top.
Well done, Giants! It was a great season with a fantastic finish.
