A Navy veteran and grandson of a Civil War hero
MELROSE — George H. Barrett, 84, of Melrose passed away at the Cambridge Health Alliance Everett Hospital on January 30, 2022.
George was born in Boston, raised in Malden and resided in Melrose for the past 22 years. He worked at the Whidden Hospital for many years, was a Navy Veteran and grandson of a Civil War hero John Harrison Barrett.
George was the lifetime companion of Elaine DeHart of Melrose. Loving son of the late George L. and Doris (Hudson) Barrett. Second father of Kristal Anderson and her husband, Eric, of N.H. and Todd DeHart of FL. Stepbrother of Bernice McLennan of Melrose and the late Barbara Kilbride, Ralph, Roger, Walter and Edward Worth. George’s extended family includes Lucille Pannozzo and her late husband, Dominic, of Billerica; Thomas Cultrera of FL; Roseanne DeLage and her husband, John, of FL; Peter Damian of MT; Regina Doyle and her husband, Kevin, of Douglas; Douglas DeHart and his wife, Nancy, of FL; Dennis Barrett and his wife, Michele, of Malden. Elaine’s grandchildren Kristina, Kelly, Katelin, Kerry, Daniel, Matthew and Raelene. Elaine’s nieces and nephews Jonathan, Brianna, Bryan, Noah, Jared, Tobin and Robin. Also survived by relatives and many friends.
Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 9-11 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m.. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
