LYNNFIELD — On June 9, the Lynnfield High softball team had its awards banquet at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus. That night, head coach Hector Longo handed out two awards.
Morgan Hubbard received the team MVP Award.
Hubbard made the Cape Ann League First-Team All-Stars for the second year in a row. It is her third year as an All-Star as the senior made the second team as a sophomore.
The shortstop led the team in batting average at .462 and she also led the Pioneers in home runs with four. The co-captain was also second on the team in runs batted in with 23.
Hubbard ended her high-school career with 106 total hits and her career average was .455. She is going to college at Tufts this fall.
Kaila George was given the Coaches Award. She made the CAL Second-Team All-Star team this spring as it was her first postseason honor.
The senior center fielder is going to Wake Forest this fall.
George, another co-captain, hit .284 with 13 runs batted in and she scored 22 runs.
Along with Hubbard and George, the Pioneers will also lose two other seniors, Julia Corrente (first base) and Libby Considine (second base).
“We will be losing a lot of experience in the infield,” admitted Longo, who just completed his third year. “They were key components for us and I cannot say enough positive things about them all.”
It was a good season for the Pioneers who, after beating Oxford, lost to East Bridgewater, 3-0, in the MIAA Division 4 Round of 16 on June 3.
Lynnfield finished the 2025 campaign at 11-11 overall. In the CAL, they went 9-7 as they ended up in fourth place in the Kinney Division.
“This is around where I thought we would finish,” said Longo, about the season in general. “I just didn’t think the season would play out like it did. We got off to a slow start but won seven of our final nine games down the stretch.”
The Pioneers are expecting to return 15 veterans next year.
“It is not necessarily about the quantity but about the quality of the players coming back,” said Longo. “We have some very good players coming back and I like where our program is heading.”
Headlining the returners is junior Lilly Williams who will be a captain again next spring.
