
MELROSE — The Beethoven Society of Melrose (BSM) is proud to present Mezzo-Soprano Eileen Christiansen accompanied by Daniel Wyneken and Blue of a Kind in concert on Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m.
Mezzo-Soprano Eileen Christiansen accompanied by Daniel Wyneken will be presenting sacred pieces with the theme of love. Included in the program will be settings of “What Wondrous Love is This”, “Ubi Caritas” and selections from Brahms’ 4 Serious Songs as well as pieces by Faure and more.
With a voice described as “richly resonant”, Ms. Christiansen is a Melrose resident and Boston-based singer of oratorio, opera and art song. She is the Co-Founder of the Opera Theater of Cape Cod and has performed as a soloist with the Masterworks Chorale, Wellesley Choral Society, Polymnia Choral Society, The Boston Cecilia, the MetroWest Choral Artists and the Salisbury Singers to name a few. Mr. Wyneken worked for many years as a vocal coach in the Opera Department of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and has served as assistant conductor and principal coach at several regional opera companies, including Central City Opera, Denver, CO; Opera Omaha, Syracuse Opera; and Opera on the James, Lynchburg, VA. He currently serves as the Minister of Music at Faith Lutheran Church in Cambridge.

Completing the afternoon’s performance will be Melrose based men’s a cappella ensemble, Blue of a Kind! This entertaining and energetic group is well known for their lively renditions of songs ranging from popular music to jazz, blues, gospel, sea chanteys, folk and spirituals. Since 2005 Blue of a Kind has sung all over greater Boston from Duxbury to Southern New Hampshire. Led by Bob Eggers, a life-long a cappella enthusiast and former member of the Yale Wiffenpoofs, the original collegiate a cappella group in the USA, these talented musicians share a passion for blending their voices into one sound, enriching audiences and singers alike.
BSM is happy to feature these outstanding musicians here in Melrose at the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church located at 355 Franklin St. A reception following the concert will be provided with an opportunity to meet the artists. This concert is free and open to the public with donations at the door going towards Almost Carnegie Hall, BSM’s annual High School Senior Soloist Music Awards Competition. Applications for this competition are still being accepted for this year’s competition until Saturday, March 16.
BSM has been presenting quality musical performances to audiences since 1927.
