LYNNFIELD — On a sunny, mild day, the Lynnfield High boys’ lacrosse team stayed undefeated on Monday afternoon as they beat guest Triton, 10-6, to go to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Cape Ann League. The Vikings, meanwhile, fell to 1-2 overall and in the CAL.

This was a nice comeback win for the locals as they trailed 5-2 at the break.

“We played with a lot more energy and we did a better job on face-offs and cutting down on penalties,” explained Pioneers head coach Pat Lamusta, about how his squad was able to turn the game around in the second half.

Senior co-captain, Jack Calichman, led the way with three goals and six assists. Will Norton also posted a hat trick while Kelan Cardinal had one goal and one assist.

Single Pioneer goals were scored by Owen Considine, Mike Murphy and Owen Doherty.

The ground ball leader was A.J. Chiaradonna who had six while goalie Ben Pimentel made 11 saves to go to 4-0.

“Ben had a great day,” stated Lamusta.

Lamusta was also pleased with the defensive play of Steve Dreher, James Sharkey and Aidan Norton as the Vikings only scored once in the final 24 minutes.

On April 5, the Pioneers routed North Reading, 17-4, at home.

“We played an awesome game against our rivals,” said Lamusta, as his team was up, 10-3, at halftime. “It was a very physical game with a lot of ground balls.”

Calichman broke out for 14 points in this game as he had six goals and eight assists. Cardinal also had a good day with four goals and two helpers. Considine had a hat trick while Will Norton had two goals.

Murphy had one goal and one assist while Evan Rocha had the other tally.

Dreher also chipped in one assist.

Pimentel made seven saves while Chiaradonna had a team-high seven ground balls.

Face-off specialist, Bryce Kay, was dominant as he had 19 face-off wins.

Lamusta also pointed out the strong play of long-stick midfielder, Jake Connell, with the way he has been helping kill penalties.

The next game for the team will be on April 12 as they visit Pentucket up in West Newbury. That game will start at 4 p.m. as the Pioneers look to go to 5-0.

Lynnfield will then host Amesbury the next day with that game starting at 4 p.m. as well.

The Pioneers will then have April Vacation Week off, as their next game isn’t until April 24 when they host St. Mary’s of Lynn. That non-league contest will start at 4 p.m.
