NORTH READING — The North Reading High boys’ lacrosse team won its second game in a row on Monday afternoon as they defeated guest Amesbury by a final of 11-8. It was the team’s first Cape Ann League win of the year as they improved to 1-5 in the league and 2-6 overall.
“It was a nice win but we have to be more consistent throughout the game,” said Hornets head coach Chuck Campobasso. “We played well in the first half but not so much in the second half.”
The Hornets led at the half, 8-3, but the Red Hawks outscored them, 5-3, in the second half.
Teddy Suny led the Hornet attack with six points as he scored five goals to go with one assist. P.J. Conte finished with four points as he had two goals and two assists.
Sam Morelli netted a pair of goals while Blake McMeniman had two assists and one goal. Matt Yong had the other tally while Logan Lamont had one assist.
Tanner DuPriest had two assists to match Conte for the team-high in helpers.
Hornet goalie, Dave Tran, made 14 saves to win his second-straight game in net as he improved to 2-6.
On April 20, the Hornets beat visiting Greater Lowell, 10-1, in non-league action.
“We were shorthanded with it being school vacation week but the kids we did have play stepped up,” said Campobasso.
The Hornets scored five goals in each half as they were up 5-0 at the break.
Suny led the way again with four goals and one assist while Morelli had two goals and two assists.
Lamont had two assists to go with one goal while Conte, Young and Finn Rodger all found the back of the Gryphon net once.
Tran turned back nine shots on net.
On May 1, the Hornets visit Hamilton-Wenham and then they host Lynnfield on May 3. Both of those games will start at 4:30 p.m.
