After press time: Lynnfield defeats Ipswich 10-8 (April 10)

BYFIELD — The Lynnfield High boys’ lacrosse team traveled to Byfield on Monday and came home with an 18-6 win over host Triton on a cold, damp day.
With the victory, the Pioneers improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Cape Ann League as they won their fourth consecutive game.
Lynnfield only led 6-4 at the half before taking control outscoring the Vikings 12-2 in the second half.
“Their goalie was a stone wall in the first half,” pointed out Pioneers head coach Pat Lamusta. “In the second half, we had much better ball movement against their zone defense and that gave us better scoring opportunities.”
Senior co-captain, Mike Murphy, had a career-high seven goals to go with one assist.
“He was able to get a ton of shots on net,” said Lamusta.
Owen Considine had a career-high eight assists to go with three goals as he had a monster day.
John Powers also recorded a hat trick while Owen Doherty scored four times to go with one helper.
Angelo Covino had the other Pioneers’ tally.
Kelan Cardinal also had a big day with five assists and five ground balls.
“Kelan was key to our transition game,” said Lamusta.
Senior goalie, Ben Pimentel, made five saves to improve to 4-1 in net.
On April 4, the Pioneers rolled over Amesbury, 18-8, at home on a pleasant, sunny day.
“We were shorthanded due to injuries and some illnesses but the players there did their jobs well,” said Lamusta.

The Pioneers did most of their damage in the opening 24 minutes as they led 15-2 at the half. Murphy led the team in scoring again as he had five goals and one assist. Paul Daley had four goals while Doherty had three to go with one assist.
Considine had two goals and five assists while Powers had two goals and two assists.
Brendan Driscoll had a goal and a team-high seven ground balls.
Covino and Brayden Anderson had the two other goals. For Anderson, it was his first-career goal.
Pimentel had seven saves.
The day before the Amesbury game, the Pioneers beat Swampscott, 11-8, at home in a non-league contest.
“We got behind 2-0 and then the defense stepped up big time,” said Lamusta.
Lynnfield outscored the Big Blue 5-1 the rest of the first half and they were able to keep the visitors at bay in the second stanza.
Pimentel was the story of this one with a season-high 14 saves.
“Ben was big for us in that game,” stated Lamusta, about the senior net-minder.
Murphy had five goals and one assist while Cardinal had two goals and three assists.
Considine had three assists to go with one goal while Powers had one goal and one assist.
Daley and Doherty had the two other goals.
Lamusta also pointed out the play of face-off specialist Tyler Maddocks who really dominated in the second half to give the Pioneers extra possessions.
On Thursday, the Pioneers visit Ipswich at 4:30 p.m. They then host Manchester-Essex on April 15 with that game starting at 4 p.m.
