Boys’ soccer kicks off postseason with 4-0 win over Monty Tech
By STEPHEN MARTELLUCCI

LYNNFIELD — On Monday afternoon, the Lynnfield High boys’ soccer team hosted Monty Tech in the MIAA Division 3 preliminary game on a cloudy, cool day.
The Pioneers ended up winning, 4-0, at Pioneer Stadium to advance to the first round.
With the victory, the 26th-seeded Pioneers improved to 11-3-5. Meanwhile, the 39th-seeded Bulldogs, who are a school out of Fitchburg, end the year at 8-8-2.
“We played pretty well,” said Pioneers head coach Brent Munroe. “We had a speed and size advantage against them.”
A majority of the game took place in Bulldog territory as Lynnfield controlled the play.

However, the game’s first goal didn’t take place until the 31st minute when Ollie Morgan scored assisted by Rocco Scenna.
“That first goal was the biggest one,” said Munroe. “We had a lot of chances early and once we broke through, the goals started to come.”
Scenna, the team’s top scorer, then netted the second goal with just over two minutes left in the first half with John Powers assisting.
Scenna struck again in the fifth minute of the second half assisted by fellow senior co-captain, Mohammed Ayari, to make it 3-0.
Four minutes later Brendan Reilly had the final tally with Scenna assisting.
Pioneers’ senior goalkeeper, Dino Gesamondo, had an easy day in net having to make only one save to record his first playoff win. He improved to 10-3-3 in net this season.
The next game for the Pioneers will be this Wednesday, Nov. 5 as they travel to Old Rochester with that game starting at 6 p.m.
Old Rochester is the 7th seed and they enter the game with a record of 11-6-3.
If the Pioneers win, they will play the winner of the No. 10 North Reading vs. No. 23 Dedham game in the Round of 16 (date, location and time unknown as of press time).
Lynnfield went 1-1 against North Reading this year as each game ended up being 1-0.
