Boys’ track falls to Vikings, finishes regular season at 2-2

BOSTON — The Hornet boys’ indoor track team closed out their regular season schedule with a tough loss against a talented Triton Viking squad by a score of 55-45 on Jan. 31. The Hornets fell to 2-2 on the CAL Kinney Division slate.

“Triton stepped up and had a solid day across the board,” said Hornets Head Coach Ryan Spinney. “They won eight out of 12 events and they certainly rose to the occasion. Hats off to them, they are a very good team. We will rebound and move forward toward the CAL Open and State Divisional meets.”

The four event winners for the Hornets included double event winner senior Ryan McGuire who took top honors in the 55 Meter Dash (6.77) and Long Jump (21′ 0″). Senior Captain Owen Delano won the Shot Put for his first career win with a toss of 37′ 7.5″, and the 4 x 200 Meter Relay of senior captain Caleb Sands, sophomore Tanner DuPriest, senior Brodie Mann and senior Nathan Miller took home the win with a time of 1:35.25.

Hornets who took home 2nd place finishes in their events included Miller in the 300 Meter Dash (36.50) and Long Jump (20′ 8″), sophomore Nicholas Johnson in the 55 Meter Hurdles with his season best time of 9.17, junior Logan Lamont in the 600 Meter Run with a time of 1:31.40, senior Michael Hemme with his personal record of 2:47.26 in the 1000 Meter Run and senior captain Jacob Duval with his jump of 5′ 6″ in the High Jump.

Third place finishers for the Hornets included Sands in the 55 Meter Dash 7.04), Mann in the 300 (37.90), Johnson in the 2 Mile (11:21.09), McGuire in the High Jump (5′ 6″), sophomore Kaio Pancini in the 55 Meter Hurdles (9.23), senior captain Nick Fabrizio in the 1 Mile (5:04.37) and senior Zach Rosatone in the Shot Put (35′ 4″).

“While this one stings, we will learn from it and move forward with a lot more motivation for the postseason meets. We have a chance to do great things as a team and if we focus on what each person needs to do to compete at their highest level, we will have a successful next few weeks,” said Spinney.

The Hornets competed in the Cape Ann League Open Championship on Tuesday after press time at the Track at New Balance in Boston.
