Lynnfield falls to Amesbury 68-32 (Jan. 29)

BOSTON — On Jan. 21, the Lynnfield High boys’ indoor track and field team improved to 3-0 as they beat Ipswich, 53-47, at the Track at New Balance in Boston.
“It was a hard-fought meet,” said Lynnfield head coach Christine Smith. “They boys wanted it bad and they got it. It was a very big win for us and I was very proud of all of them.”
Ipswich fell to 2-1 with the defeat as it put the Pioneers in the driver’s seat for the Cape Ann League Baker Division title.
Eli Mendese and Shea McCarthy led the way with two wins each. Mendese had a distance of 19’11” in the long jump and a 39’11.5” in the shot put.
McCarthy, meanwhile, captured the two mile at 10:41.77 (personal best) and the mile (5:06.31).
Mike Murphy was first in the high jump 5’8” while Dillon Reilly was tied for second at 5’6”/
Jessie Dorman was first in the 55-meters (a personal-best 6.86) while Brendan Reilly was first in the 300-meters (38.11). Dorman was also second in the 300 at 39.40.
The 4×200 relay team of the Reilly brothers, Dorman and Charlie Morgan won with a time of 1:37.19.
Nick Groussis was second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.66) while Mendese was third (a personal-best 8.76).
Mendese also captured fourth place in the high jump with a season-best 6’0” at the MSTCA Coaches Invitational (Small School) on Jan. 25 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
“He rose to the occasion,” said Smith, about the senior. “Only the top eight in each event medal.”
The next meet for the Pioneers will be the Cape Ann League Meet on Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. That meet will also be at the Track at New Balance.
