FITCHBURG—The Melrose High boys’ outdoor track team finished their winning season on the best of notes, with medals collected at the Div. 4 State Finals and, later, the Meet of Champions (All State) event held on June 5 at Fitchburg State.
Melrose first qualified numerous athletes to compete in Div. 4 State finals after their strong season. Those competing for Melrose individually were Charlie Finocchiaro in the 110 hurdles, high jump and long jump, Giancarlo Martinis Torres in the 110 hurdles and triple jump, Tyler Lecomte in the 100 dash, Matt Callahan in the 200 dash and long jump, Henry McCormack in the 1 mile, Ben Dugan in the 1 mile, Adam Caldwell in the 400 and 800, John Strong in the 800, Brendan Radzik in the javelin, Emmanuel Guzman in the javelin, Sam Madden in the high jump, Jason Tang in the long jump, John Strong in the 800 meter and Caleb Barnes in the mile.
Those medaling included Adam Caldwell in the 800 (2nd) Brendan Radzik in the 100 dash (8th) and 4th in the long jump, Caleb Barnes in the 1 mile (5th) and Nick Vasallo in the high jump. Their relay teams simply did the job and saw medals earned by their 4×400 Ian McGrath, John Strong, Drew Finger and Matt Sarnoski, and their 4×800 team of John Strong, Ian McGrath, Caleb Barnes and Adam Caldwell, who medaled in 4th. Their 4×100 team of Rich Harrison, Matt Callahan, Max Lanciani and Tyler Lecomte medaled in 8th as well.

All of the collective work helped Melrose take 7th place among 32 teams.
It also helped Melrose be well represented at the Meet of Champions at Fitchburg State College last weekend where they send qualified athletes to compete on the All State level. They included Adam Caldwell, Brendan Radzik, Caleb Barnes, Emmanuel Guzman. Having simply a day was Brendan Radzik who medaled in 4th in the long jump. Additionally, Melrose’s Ryan Feeney placed first in the adaptive 100 dash.
