WAKEFIELD — The Brewers continue to dominate the Twi League as evidenced by their recent drubbing of the Loafers. Still undefeated, the Brewers walked away with their fifth win of the summer on Tuesday night at Moulton Park with a decisive, 14-2 victory.
All was clicking for the Brewers with Colin Jaena pitching expertly and being treated to sharp fielding and explosive offense.
Multiple Brewers had multiple hits, and runs were scored for the Brewers in five of the game’s seven innings. Brendan Casey started off the first inning with a huge triple, and a single by Matt Fiore brought him home for the first run of the game.
The third inning was a big one for the Brewers. Casey reached on an error, then John Halsey and Matt Fiore smacked singles. Steve Morganelli hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field, scoring Casey. Darren Bisso then pulled a ball to left field, which was almost caught by a diving Loafer, but sailed past and scored Halsey and Fiore, making the score 4-0.
The fourth inning was even bigger for the Brewers with six runs scored on a number of walks and hits. Casey and Morganelli belted huge doubles to deep center field, and Fiore, Jaena and Bisso hit singles to rack up the score to 10-0.
Two more singles by Casey and Fiore along with a walk by Halsey in the fifth inning accounted for another Brewers run.
The bases loaded up in the sixth inning when a Brewer reached on an error, and two more Brewers were hit by pitches. A walk then scored another run and a single by Halsey got past the Loafers’ centerfielder so that two additional runs scored, giving the Brewers a total of 14.
The Loafers had a few bright spots during the game with slugger Ben Waldrip going 3 for 4 and hitting a huge double to centerfield in the bottom of the sixth inning. Rookie Charles Gagne went 2 for 2 and scored one of the Loafers’ two runs. Jared Pavey hit a single and advanced around the bases for the Loafers’ second run.
With the loss, the Loafers fell to 3-3, and the Brewers are now 5-0. The Loafers will hope to get back in the win column tonight, 6 p.m. at Moulton against the High Life. The next opponent for the Brewers will be the Unknowns on Monday night.
