Carol Kilroy, 84

Retired crossing guard was loved by community

LYNNFIELD — Carol L. Kilroy, 84, the loving wife of the late Arthur W. Kilroy and a longtime resident of Lynnfield, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025 at Beverly Hospital.

Carol was born in Lynn on Oct. 20, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Caroline M. (Bilodeau) Fraser. She was a graduate of Wakefield High School Class of 1958 and North Shore Community College. Carol loved serving her community and was an ardent supporter of both the Lynnfield Fire Department and the Police Department. For over 40 years rain or shine, she enjoyed interacting with students and parents as a crossing guard for the town of Lynnfield. She also worked with the LPD as a matron for several years. In addition, Carol loved working at The Christmas Tree Shop in Lynnfield.

One of Carol’s passions was that she loved tracing her heritage on Ancestry. She would go to cemeteries tracing headstones. Carol loved traveling and enjoying time with family and friends, all of whom will miss her friendship, compassion and strength of character. Carol was the glue that held her family together and was a friend who could be counted on. Even after suffering the loss of her beloved daughter and husband, she always kept a positive attitude, counseling others: “Be grateful and concentrate on the time you had with your loved ones, rather than dwelling on their loss.”

Those who knew Carol are grateful for the time they had with her.

Carol was the loving mother of Sean Kilroy of Lynnfield, and the late Colleen T. Kilroy, who passed away 26 years ago. She was the sister of the late Malcolm and Laurence Fraser. She was also the grandmother of Aidan, Sean Jr. and Nicholas Kilroy, and Mitchell Rodriguez. In addition, Carol is also survived by her brother-in-law Michael and his wife Carol; sister-in-law Elizabeth; brother-in-law Robert and several loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carol’s funeral service was held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Summer Street, Lynnfield, on Feb. 18, 2025. Interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to a charity of your choice in her name. The McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield handled the arrangements.
