Schools reopening plan unveiled

WAKEFIELD — In addition to requiring masks for all students and staff in Wakefield Public Schools per state mandate and local policy, other COVID-related rules and protocols will be in effect when local schools reopen on Sept. 9.

Superintendent Doug Lyons and his staff outlined the “reopening plan” at this week’s School Committee meeting.

Mixed reviews on school mask mandate

OPPONENTS OF mandated student masking demonstrated in front of Wakefield High School before Tuesday night’s School Committee meeting. The School Committee voted this week to require masks for all Wakefield students and staff when school opens in September. Fire fought on Berkeley Street

MELROSE — Residents were forced to seek shelter someplace else after being temporarily displaced from their 25 Berkeley St. home by a fire early Tuesday night.

According to fire officials, an explosion was heard in the neighborhood around 6 p.m.

MELROSE — In a public forum on Wednesday, August 18, Mayor Paul Brodeur presented the current status of the Melrose Public Library Renovation plans alongside a panel of project stakeholders.
