Cultural Council awards 25 grants

MELROSE — The Melrose Cultural Council announces the award of 25 Local Cultural Council (LCC) grants totaling $9,400 for events and programs that will take place in Melrose during the 2018 calendar year. Thirty-six applications were submitted. The deadline for submission was October 15.

Emergency Fund sets new record

MELROSE — Donations to the Melrose Emergency Fund topped $55,000 this week, setting a new record for the holiday donation drive.

Those donations included one from Sadie Smith, who asked the guests at her birthday party to bring donations to the Emergency Fund instead of presents.

Lewis office hours Friday

Weather alert: Heavy rain forecasted; prepare now to prevent flooding

MELROSE — The weather forecast calls for Melrose to receive a significant amount of rain Friday and Saturday. This rain, coupled with melting snow, is expected to produce a significant amount of stormwater.

The forecast also calls for a drop in temperatures on Saturday, which could cause any rain-covered surfaces

Gail Infurna first woman to serve as mayor

MELROSE — Ward 5 Alderman Gail M. Infurna was named president of the Board of Aldermen Monday, and come Feb. 5, she also will be the first woman to serve as the city’s mayor.
