By the time Item photographer Joe Hakey took this photo in 1996, the Wakefield Center Neighborhood Association’s annual Lighting of the Lights was a well-established local Christmas tradition, as was the annual appearance of Frosty the Snowman. In early 1980, the fledgling WCNA launched a fundraising campaign to bring Christmas lighting to Wakefield Square.
