Celebrate Yom Kippur with family-focused activities

WAKEFIELD — Local families have an opportunity to observe the Yom Kippur holiday in a welcoming and meaningful way. Chabad of Wakefield is hosting services and programs on Thursday, Oct. 2 at the Four Points Hotel by Sheraton. Both traditional services and family-focused activities are offered.

“Yom Kippur is a day for reflection, renewal, and community,” said Rabbi Sruly Brook, director of Chabad of Wakefield. “Everyone is welcome to join, whether for a short visit or the full day of services.”

During a family-friendly program on Thursday, Oct. 2 from 10:30 to 11 a.m., led by Devora Brook, children will explore the meaning of Yom Kippur through stories, holiday-themed games, and a raffle, with each participant receiving a goodie bag and snack.

“This program makes the holiday come alive for children,” said Brook. “It gives them a way to connect with the themes of Yom Kippur while parents know their kids are engaged, happy, and included.”

Parents are welcome to join their children or to spend those 30 minutes in the traditional service running at the same time. Thursday morning services begin at 9:30 a.m., including prayers in Hebrew and English with explanations throughout.

The Yizkor memorial service at 11 a.m. offers a time to honor departed loved ones.

Yom Kippur services conclude with Neilah closing prayers on Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by a community breakfast.

All programs are open to the public at no cost, with no membership required. RSVPs are encouraged at JewishWakefield.com/services, but walk-ins are warmly welcome. Call 781-205-9593 or email info@jewishwakefield.com for more information.
