City is ‘climate leader’

MELROSE — The city’s energy efficiency initiatives will be recognized at an event next week at the Statehouse.

The Sponsors of Mass Save will host an award ceremony Tuesday to honor the 2024 Mass Save Climate Leaders. The recognition celebrates 19 entities across Massachusetts for their outstanding efforts to curb energy use, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and guide the Commonwealth to a net-zero future.

The City of Melrose is one of them.

According to a release, the 2024 Climate Leaders are helping Massachusetts lead the nation in energy efficiency and meet Governor Maura Healey’s ambitious climate goals by reducing environmental impacts and lowering energy costs. Each honoree exemplifies how environmentally conscious actions drive economic success and a positive climate future for the Commonwealth.

The ceremony will be 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon in the Great Hall, second floor of the Statehouse, 24 Beacon St.

Among those in attendance will be Elizabeth Mahony, commissioner, Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER); Representative Jeffrey N. Roy (D-Norfolk), chairperson, Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy; Tilak Subrahmanian, vice president of Energy Efficiency and Electric Mobility, Eversource; and Christopher Porter, director of Customer Energy Management, National Grid.
