City seeks volunteers for openings on city boards, commissions

MELROSE — Mayor Jen Grigoraitis is accepting applications from residents to fill openings on several City boards and commissions. The City encourages residents to volunteer to serve as members of these bodies which are essential to City functions and give residents a direct voice in local government.

City boards and commissions with current vacancies include Beebe Estate Board of Trustees; Cable Television Commission Historical Commission; Historic District Commission; Human Rights Commission; Melrose Cultural Council; Melrose Scholarship Fund; and Melrose Senior and Disabled Tax Relief Fund.

Grigoraitis is the appointing authority for all Melrose board members and commissioners. After selection and nomination by the mayor, all appointments are approved by the Melrose City Council. During her first year in office, Grigoraitis made 23 new mayoral appointments and 25 reappointments to various City boards and commissions. These appointments and reappointments addressed backlogs of vacant seats and lapsed terms reaching back several years.

To apply to serve on any of the City’s boards or commissions with current vacancies, please send a statement of interest to the Mayor’s Office via email at mayorsoffice@cityofmelrose.org. The inclusion of a professional resume is recommended but not required.
