Co-op gymnasts take 3rd at North Sectionals, advance to states this weekend

NORTHBOROUGH —  Last Saturday, the Lynnfield-Danvers High co-op gymnastics team participated in the North Sectionals at Algonquin Regional High School.

The Falcons were able to advance to the state finals as they came in 3rd place with a total score of 146.525. 

Only the top four of 12 total teams advanced to states.

Central Catholic, the defending state champs, was first (147.575), Masconomet was second (146.925) and Reading was fourth (143.275). 

Kaylee Wescott led the way for the Falcons coming in second place in the all-around with a score of 38.275. The sophomore had a 9.7 in the vault. a 9.0 on the bars, a 9.7 on the beam and a 9.85 on the floor exercise.

She was first on the floor, second on the vault and beam and tied for eighth on the bars.

Lynnfield’s Camryn Donovan captured sixth in the all-around with a 37.2. She had a 9.65 (third place) on the vault, an 8.6 (18th) on the bars, a 9.5 (fifth) on the beam and a 9.45 (tied for eighth) on the floor. 

Sophia Catinazzo was tied for 26th in the all-around as she did three events scoring a 26.750. The Lynnfield resident had a 9.45 on the vault, an 8.3 on the bars and a 9.0 on the floor. 

Delainy Murphy captured 33rd with a score of 26.0 in her three events. She had a 9.15 on the vault, an 8.5 on the bars and an 8.35 on the beam. 

The Falcons will now compete in the state final this Saturday back at Algonquin High starting at 10 a.m. 

Last winter, Lynnfield-Danvers came in third place in the finals behind Central and Masconomet.

In the regular season, the Falcons went 6-1 overall as they came in second place in the CAL-NEC behind Masconomet.
