NORTH READING — The North Reading Garden Club’s biggest fundraising event of the year — the Spring Silver Tea featuring a buffet of delectable desserts, creatively themed gift baskets, centerpieces and beautiful arrangements made by featured presenter Thelma Shoneman, is being held on Wednesday, April 9 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) at the Moose Lodge,140 North St.
The public is invited to join Garden Club members for an evening of arranging techniques and fun raffles, while enjoying some teas and treats.
This year’s theme is “A Floral Journey from East to West” with featured presenter Thelma Shoneman. She is a wonderful floral designer who will have guests travel with her from a simple Eastern Tea ceremony design. She will teach the similarities and differences between Eastern and Western floral arrangements. She will also demonstrate the mechanics and techniques used in Ikebana with a focus on the Sogetsu-ryu School of Ikebana or Japanese floral art.
Shoneman is a nationally accredited Master Flower Show Judge and the club members are looking forward to having her entertain and inspire with her floral talents.

Proceeds for the event will benefit the North Reading Garden Club’s numerous community projects ranging from a college scholarship, essay and poetry contests for students, garden therapy at the Royal Meadow View nursing home, Arbor Day ceremony and tree planting, sponsored “Adopt an Island” program, and plantings at Ipswich River Park.
