Elworthy, Dillon to lead SC

By DAN TOMASELLO

LYNNFIELD — Kristen Grieco Elworthy was appointed as the School Committee’s chair once again during an April 9 meeting.

School Committee member Jim Dillon made a motion to nominate Elworthy as the school board’s chair. The School Committee unanimously voted to appoint Elworthy as chair in a roll call vote.

Elworthy, who was re-elected to a full three-year in the Town Election on April 8, was first appointed as the School Committee’s chair last September. She welcomed newly elected School Committee member Kim Baker Donahue to the panel.

“Welcome everybody and welcome Kim,” said Elworthy. “We are looking forward to working with you. Welcome to your first meeting, which is usually approving the calendar. We already did that so you have a little bit more of a meeting today with what is going on.”

Elworthy also thanked former School Committee Vice Chair Jenny Sheehan for her service over the past year. Baker Donahue was elected to a three-year term on the School Committee in a landslide in the April 8 Town Election after receiving 1,049 votes in a three-candidate race for two seats on the school board. Elworthy was re-elected to a full three-year term after finishing second in the race with 685 votes. Sheehan was not re-elected after finishing third with 655 votes.

“I do want to give a heartfelt thank you to Jenny Sheehan, who worked tirelessly on the School Committee for the past year,” said Elworthy. “She had a great impact and I enjoyed working with her myself. She had a great impact on policy and budget, and the overall culture of the district. She will be missed.”

Elworthy appointed Dillon as vice chair.
