Family and faith were the cornerstones of her life

MELROSE — Ethel J. “Betty” (Powell) Moore, resident of Melrose passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. She was 91.

Betty was born in Chelsea on September 22, 1933, one of four children of the late Arthur and Sarah (née Moore) Powell. Betty grew up in the Chelsea area and graduated from Chelsea High School.  

Family and faith were the cornerstones of Betty’s life. She was exceptionally involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed visiting with extended family and listening to old music and old hymns. Betty always made “Nana Buttons” brownies, peanut butter balls and church windows with her great grandchildren.

Betty was an over 20-year member of New Hope Assembly Church in Saugus. She not only believed and attended church but lived out her faith every day of her life.

Betty was a great wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Her presence and love will be missed.

Betty was the beloved wife of the late N. Roy Moore with whom she shared 70 years of marriage. Devoted mother of the late Roy John (surviving wife Debra) Moore of Melrose; David A. (Lisa) Moore of Stoneham; and Paul D. (Eric Barnett) Moore of FL. Cherished grandmother of Meridith Pesce, Robert (Jennifer) Moore, Adam Moore, DJ Moore and Danielle (Billy) Dalton; and great-grandmother of Tyler, Kailyn, Allesandra, Alexis, Tyler F., Bailey, Ely, Peyton, Hunter, Daelan and Maddox. Loving sister to Louise Hudson of Lunenburg, Carol Powell of Tewksbury and the late Shirley Holler. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends were invited to gather in honor of Betty’s life during visiting hours as the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St. Melrose on Sunday, February 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. and on Monday, February 10 at New Hope Assembly, 9 Assembly Dr., Saugus for her funeral service celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
