After Burlington win, a sweep at Southland Dual
By JENNIFER GENTILE
SOUTHINGTON, CT—The Melrose High wrestling team put the show on the road and took victory across state borders when they competed in the Southland Dual Tournament, competing against ten Connecticut teams and sweeping the day, 5-0. Adding in another dual meet victory against Freedom League rival Burlington, and Melrose has wrapped up yet impeccable, winning week.
Melrose remains 13-1 on the season and is currently ranked 13th in the state in dual team rankings.
On January 8, Melrose traveled to Burlington and scored a 58-16 victory over the Red Devils, making their road to taking another league title a little easier (though it’s historically determined by the annual Brawl in the Hall versus Wakefield)
Against Burlington, Melrose got wins from junior captain Johnny Moraes, junior Jack Shea (WBF), junior Luke Brodeur (WBF), sophomore Cian Sullivan (WBF), sophomore Luke Kelley (WBF), freshman Parker Siebel (WBMD), junior Amar Lakacha (WBF), senior captain Marco Albanese (WBF), senior captain Quinn Fogarty (WBF), senior Emmanuel Guzman (WBD), his first varsity win, and junior Captain Scotty Santos (WBF).
And it was a clean sweep at the Southland Dual Tourney in Southington, CT when they went 5-0 and took out Southington for the championship match.
Mass Wrestling has announced their individual rankings and it contains plenty of Melrose talent. Junior Captain Johnny Moraes remains undefeated on the year and is ranked #1 in the All-state rankings at 113 lbs.
Senior captain Marco Albanese is currently ranked #5 at 157. Junior captain Scotty Santos is currently ranked #12 at 215, and junior Jack Shea is ranked #14 at 126. Collectively Melrose is ranked # 11 Dual Meet team in the state.
Melrose will travel to Holliston this weekend for a quad meet against the host, plus Arlington, who is high-ranked and could pose a challenge to Melrose
