WAKEFIELD — The Galvin Middle School Morning Jazz Band is about to showcase its talent and hard work on a statewide scale. After submitting a video to the Massachusetts Music Educators Association, the band’s director Micheal Morel said he got the word that the band was one of only two groups from grades K-12 selected to perform at the concert hour. “This is a great opportunity for the GMS Jazz students and the Wakefield Music Department as a whole to display the results of our incredible preK-12 Music Curriculum.”

The Galvin Morning Jazz Band gets their name from their rehearsal time. Morel says the group meets before school two days a week and has been working diligently towards this performance. The band will perform “Fried Buzzard” by Lou Donaldson, “Caravan” by Duke Ellington, “Meetin’ Time” by Benny Carter and an exciting new “Salsa” arrangement of the jazz standard Misty.

The performance will be this Friday at the DCU Conference Center in Worcester. Also performing during the K-12 concert hour will be the Longmeadow High School Lyrics, an accomplished vocal group from Longmeadow.
