WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield High wrestling team welcomed Woburn to the WMHS cafeteria  last night for one of the biggest dual meets of the season between two of the best teams in the Middlesex League.

In the end, Wakefield stayed perfect in league dual meets this year with a thrilling, 42-34 victory.

After the first seven bouts, the visiting Tanners were up 30-12, forcing the Warriors to get to work, starting in the 150 bracket. From 150 to the final bout at 285, Wakefield went 6-1 to secure an exciting win.

After the Tanners won the first three matchups via pin, Michael Barry got Wakefield on the board at 126 with a pin in 1:55 over Colin Terilli.

Aydin Lamb followed that up with a pin in 2:37 over Aedyn Mennell at 132, cutting Woburn’s lead to 18-12.

Two more pins for the Tanners at 138 and 144 officially put Wakefield on notice, trailing by 18.

The Warriors went to work on a winning streak, starting with a hard-earned 7-4 decision from James Fabbri at 150 to pick up 3 points.

Wakefield would tie it up in the next matches. Sean Callanan made quick works of Bruno Moraes with a pin in 55 seconds at 157, Jaden Fullerton outlasted James Delorfano at 165, ending in a pin in 3:19 and Nick Roehrich evened things at 30 with a 12-7 decision over Connor Johnson at 175.

Woburn reclaimed the lead, making it 34-30 after a major decision win at 190.

The Warriors have plenty of confidence in their heavyweights to close out victories this season and for good reason with Ahmed Othman at 215 and Kip King at 285.

Othman pinned Jacob Davidson in 3:52 to give Wakefield the lead at 36-34, setting up the final bout which would decide the meet.

King stepped into the circle and left no doubts for his team, pinning Mohamed Amamou in 1:23 to finish up the 42-34 Warrior win.

Wakefield will host a quad meet tomorrow at 9 a.m. against three strong programs in Reading, Tewksbury and Triton.
