MELROSE—The Melrose High gymnastics team got their revenge on a team who has beaten them the last three years with a close 133.75-131.75 win over Wilmington/Bedford on the road at Gym Street USA in Wilmington on Monday to improve to 4-3 on the season. This Friday evening, they host their final dual meet of the season against Malden, which will serve as Senior Night, before taking part in the annual Middlesex League Meet on Monday.
Melrose saw winning performances in vault and floor, which proved vital. Noah Williamson’s 9.05 in the vault and a dynamic 9.2 by Isabella Ferranti in floor helped catapult Melrose point wise. Wilmington/Bedford would take just one event, beam, and the two teams tied the vault event. Melrose prevailed in bars and floor.
They kicked off the vault with great work from Williamson, Abby Dennison, Sumin Kang and Maya Weissman, who earned scored for Melrose, while Ashley Muller and Caroline Lee also competed with solid scores.
Melrose had a great night in beam, scoring above 8.0s in each event behind the work of Charlotte Blanchard, Isabella Ferranti, Ashley Muller, Sumin Kang, Hillary Bush, and Aislin Savage, who led in scoring.
Melrose fell to Wilmington/Bedford in beam but saw a top score from Isabella Ferranti. Ferranti would wow in floor to finish the night with a 9.2 performance and was aided by fine work from Aislin Savage, Ashley Muller, Sumin Kang and Noah Williamson.
After the meet coach Denise Valdez praised her two high scorers and the entire squad. “We were proud of Noah’s Tsuk vault which was great. Bella had a beautiful floor routine. Very proud of them all.”
This Friday they will host Malden at 7:00 p.m. for Senior Night in which they honor their seniors, captains Abby Dennison, Maya Weissman and senior Ella Ugino.
