LYNNFIELD — One hundred Huckleberry Hill School fourth graders’ academic achievements were recently celebrated during the annual moving on ceremony in the all-purpose room.
The ceremony, which had the theme “This Is My Victory Lap,” began with music teacher Kerrie Fraser leading the fourth graders during performances of “God Bless America” and “A Couple of Swells” by American songwriter Irwin Berlin. Fourth graders Nicholas Cavallo and Jackson Stutto performed solos during “A Couple of Swells.”
The fourth graders also sang “We’re a Winning Team” that featured a solo by Charlotte D’Onofrio, a speaking part by Siena McKenna and recorder solos played by Isabella Allien, Sadie DePrizio, Duncan Herman, Julia Hutter, Amal Mamadjanova and Nicholas Marques.
Huckleberry Hill fourth grade teacher Erin Bingham said the moving on ceremony was a “meaningful and memorable day, as we celebrate our fourth graders and their journey forward.”
“They are getting ready to move on from this magical little school up here on the Hill — a place that has nurtured their growth, friendships and learning,” said Bingham.
Fourth grade teacher Heather Clavin said Huckleberry Hill educators and staff wanted to thank the Moving On Committee for working to “make this event special for our fourth graders and their families.”
“Please help me to thank Crystal Lavino, Danielle Berdahn, Julie Cavallo, Jen Stutto and Courtney McKelvey,” said Clavin. “We also want to note that all these women are also our outgoing PTO Board members. We have very much appreciated everything you have done at Huckleberry. Thank you to everyone else who has volunteered over the years for our staff and students.”
The moving on ceremony’s attendees gave the Moving On Committee a round of applause.
Fourth grade teacher Deb Tracy thanked Superintendent Tom Geary and School Committee member Kate DePrizio for attending the ceremony and supporting the fourth-graders.
While Huckleberry Hill School Principal Lauren King said the fourth graders and her “only shared one short year together,” she said. “It has been a year full of growth, laughter and unforgettable memories.”
“From the very beginning, you’ve shown me what it truly means to be a Huckleberry Hero — kind, curious, courageous and full of heart,” said King. “You have left an incredible mark on Huckleberry Hill School. Whether through your enthusiasm, your humor, your willingness to try new things or your care for one another, you’ve built a legacy that makes us all proud. You’ve led by example, shaped your classroom community and shown strength of character far beyond your years. As you prepare to take your next steps to middle school, it’s hard to say goodbye — but that’s only because this year has meant so much.”
King said Huckleberry Hill School’s moving on ceremony “isn’t really goodbye.”
“It’s a celebration of all that you’ve accomplished and all the greatness still ahead of you,” said King. “You are brave. You are kind. You are resilient. You are Heroes — not just because that’s what we call you, but because you live out the qualities of real heroes every day. Heroes are defined by their courage, integrity, determination and desire to make the world better. That’s exactly who you are. Keep being true to yourself, carry the lessons of Huckleberry Hill with you and continue to shine your light wherever you go. I am so grateful to have been part of your journey. You’ve inspired me every day, and I will always remember this special year we shared.”
Fourth grade teacher Katherine Bider agreed.
“We’re so proud of all they’ve accomplished, and we’re excited for what lies ahead,” said Bider.
The fourth graders received their certificates from Bingham, Bider, Clavin, Tracy and Paula Smart with the assistance of King and Fraser.
Families, educators, staff and school officials gave the fourth graders a thunderous round of applause after they received their certificates.
Similar to previous years, the Huckleberry Hill moving on video was shown. The video included baby pictures and current pictures of the fourth graders. The students also answered questions such as what was their favorite subject and what was their favorite Huckleberry Hill School memory.
“Please enjoy these special moments,” said Smart. “We hope they warm your heart and bring a smile to your face.”
