‘Innovation in Energy’ theme announced in RMLD’s annual high school art contest

READING – Each year, RMLD holds an electricity-themed art contest for high school students in North Reading, Lynnfield Center, Reading and Wilmington who live in an area served by RMLD.

The theme for 2025 is “Innovation in Energy.” The challenge for this year’s contest is to display this spirit of innovation.

Innovation has been a constant presence in the energy industry. From the invention of the light bulb to solar and electric vehicles, to smart grids and renewables, energy is truly in constant motion.

Various mediums are accepted including, but not limited to, drawings, paintings, photography, animation, and graphic art.

Participating students receive a certificate for 10 hours of community service for taking part in the contest. Winners receive gift cards for school or art supplies along with the chance for their artwork to be featured in RMLD promotional material.

The 2025 contest kicked off February 1 and submissions are due by Tuesday, April 15 at 5:30 p.m.

Here are some sample ideas for the artists to consider:

• What does innovation mean to our community, and/or to the world?

• How has innovation impacted energy historically?

• How will we achieve our collective energy goals and needs through innovation?

• What is in store for the future of energy?

Use one of these sample themes or create your own around the spirit of innovation in energy. Do your research. Be bold in your expression. RMLD is excited to see what you create!
