NORTH READING — To the delight of local children, the playground renovations at Ipswich River Park have been completed, enabling the playground to re-open as of today, May 4.
Parks Director Marty Tilton reports that only one outstanding item remains: they are awaiting the arrival of the handicap-accessible swing.
During the past few weeks the old wooden climbing structures and slides were removed and replaced with modern ADA-compliant structures. The edging and mulch around the existing swings were also upgraded and an accessible ramp added to provide access to the swings, with one existing swing slated to be replaced with an accessible swing.
Other sections of the park will be upgraded during the current construction season and the public will be notified when it will be necessary to close those sections of IRP, such as the tennis and basketball courts and the roller hockey skating rink.
