Joan Dalton, 89

WAKEFIELD — Joan E. Dalton, age 89, of Wakefield, passed away on Tuesday, August 19 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. 

She was born in Jamestown, NY on February 16, 1936 and was the daughter of the late John and Genevieve (Ross) Castagnino. Joan grew up in Jamestown, NY where her parents immigrated to from Italy. In 1955 Joan and girlfriends decided to move to Florida looking for more excitement than Jamestown had to offer. She got a job in the typing pool on a military base and that is where she met her future husband Richard. Joan moved to Richard’s hometown of Wakefield where they raised six children. Once the children were older, they bought a vacation home in Northport, FL and enjoyed being snowbirds for many years.

She was the loving wife of the late Richard Dalton. She was the loving mother of Jack Dalton of Haverhill; Michael Dalton and his wife Robin of Pepperell; Susan Bollinger and her husband Mark of Schertz, TX; David Dalton and his wife Dee of Wakefield; and the late Mark and Matthew Dalton. She was the sister of Richard Castagnino and the late Gerry Castagnino. Joan is also survived by her ten grandchildren, her four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Joan’s funeral service will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday, August 25 at 7 p.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 4 p.m. Interment will be private. Visit mcdonaldfs.com.
