HVAC professional was a former Melrose resident

HICKORY, NC — We are heartbroken to announce the unexpected passing of Kevin James Grady on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at age 75. Kevin was a resident of Hickory, NC, where he passed, and a former longtime resident of Melrose, MA. He was born in Cambridge, MA, and raised in Arlington, MA.

Kevin is survived by his cherished daughters, Alexandra M. Grady and Alanna H. Grady, his beloved partner Charlene P. Finley Grady of Melrose, his brother James C. Grady of Medford, his niece Janelle Grady of Woburn, sisters-in-law Elizabeth Grady, of Woburn, Lorraine Thomas, of Alton, NH, and Deborah McDermott, of Kingston, NH, and Margot the dog, of Melrose, as well as many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Grady and Margaret M. McCarthy, step-parents A. Phyllis O’Halloran-Grady and J. Robert McCarthy, and sister-in-law Pamela Girard. 

Prior to his retirement in 2014, Kevin was an HVAC professional. He spent 25 years working for the MBTA as a foreman, most recently on the Blue Line and previously on the Orange and Red Lines. He also worked as the Chief Building Engineer for Emcor (Building Technology Engineers) at Logan Airport. He held multiple degrees and certifications from Peterson School of Steam Engineering, Northeast Institute of Industrial Technology, and Bunker Hill Community College.
