WENHAM — On Sunday afternoon, the Lynnfield High boys’ lacrosse team won its first game of the 2025 campaign as they beat host Hamilton-Wenham, 16-10, at Gordon College.
The Pioneers went to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Cape Ann League while the Generals fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the CAL.
Lynnfield came out on fire as they led 9-0 at the half. It was 12-4 heading into the fourth quarter as the Generals rallied to make the score more respectable.
“We got off to a very hot start,” said Lynnfield head coach Pat Lamusta. “I did wish that we played a more complete game in the final quarter but I give Hamilton-Wenham credit for fighting back.”
It was a memorable day for Owen Doherty as the senior midfielder had a career-high seven points with five goals and two assists.

Owen Considine, who led the Pioneer hockey team in points, is doing the same thing in lacrosse as he had a team-high eight points with four goals and four assists.
Senior co-captain, Mike Murphy, had three goals and four assists as he also had a big day.
Paul Bailey scored twice while John Powers had one goal and one assists.
Kelan Cardinal finished with four points on one goal and three assists.
Senior goalie, Ben Pimentel, made six saves to go to 1-1 in net.
Tyler Maddocks won 12 face-offs.
In the season-opener last Friday, the Pioneers lost at Melrose, 11-7, in a non-league game.
“It was the complete opposite of the Hamilton-Wenham game,” admitted Lamusta. “We got into too much of a hole after the first quarter but played a lot better in the second half.”
The Red Hawks stormed out to a 7-1 lead after the first quarter and were up 10-2 at the break.
The Pioneers outscored Melrose 5-1 in the second half but it was too little, too late.
Cardinal led the offense with four goals and one assist while Murphy had one goal and one helper. Powers and Considine had the two other LHS goals.
Pimentel had a busy day in net as he made 13 stops.
Newcomer Josh Bernabei, a sophomore defensive-midfielder, had three ground balls.
On April 3, the Pioneers host Swampscott. That non-league game will start at 4:30 p.m.
They then go back to CAL play as they host Amesbury on April 4 and visit Triton on April 7. Both of those games will start at 4 p.m.
