LYNNFIELD — Last Friday afternoon, the Lynnfield High boys’ lacrosse team rolled over guest Bourne, 21-9, in an MIAA Division 4 first round game on a day that had on-and-off rain showers.
Bourne scored right off the opening face-off but the Pioneers took command from that point leading 7-2 after the first quarter and 11-6 at the half.
“We were shocked at that first goal but we then settled down,” explained Pioneers head coach Pat Lamusta. “We did a good job of moving the ball.”
With the win, the 9th-seeded Pioneers improved to 13-6 while the 24th-seeded Canalmen ended the year at 10-9.
John Powers led the team in goals with six while Kelan Cardinal had five goals, one assist and five ground balls.
Paul Daley and Mike Murphy each finished with five points. Daley had four goals and one assist while Murphy had three goals and a pair of helpers.
Owen Considine was the third Pioneer that had five points with two goals and three assists and the senior also had four ground balls and three takeaways.
Owen Doherty had three assists and four ground balls while Brendan Driscoll had the other LHS tally.
Pioneer goalie, Ben Pimentel, made four saves to improve to 13-6.
“The defense in front of Ben played well so he didn’t have to make too many saves,” pointed out Lamusta.
On Thursday, the Pioneers will visit 8th-seeded Littleton in the Round of 16 at 1:30 p.m.
The Tigers enter the game at 16-1 as they beat Monomoy at home in the first round on Monday.
The winner will advance to the quarterfinals where they will meet the winner of No. 1 Cohasset vs. No. 16 Winthrop.
