An avid Celtics fan who enjoyed dancing
MELROSE — Mrs. Linda Eng Hong, 91, a longtime resident of Melrose passed away peacefully on February 20 in the loving arms of her children surrounded by her grandchildren and family.
Linda was born in Canton, China, daughter of the late Dr. Sing Che Ng and late Mrs. Chik Tai Ng. At 12 years old, Linda attended both private boarding school and college in Hong Kong where she remained as an elementary school teacher. From Hong Kong she came to the United States in 1955 and settled in her husband Richard’s childhood hometown of Melrose where they raised their two daughters.
Linda enjoyed ballroom, square and round dancing with her husband Richard, was an avid Celtics and all Boston sports fan and a dedicated superfan of her grandchildrens’ sports and activities. Above all else, Linda was most proud of her loving family, their personal and professional accomplishments that she fully supported and she instilled family love with the highest family values and as always, her family was first and foremost.
Linda was the beloved wife of the late Richard Chung Hong with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Dorothy Hong Courtney (late Dr. Michael Courtney) of Melrose and Dr. Debra Hong Pan and her husband Dr. Nelson Pan of Melrose. Cherished grandchildren Dr. Elizabeth Jones (Dr. Derek Jones); Dr. Sarah Courtney (Matthew Owens); Dr. Michael Courtney Jr. (Shay Courtney); Kathryn Roy (Paul Roy); Richard Courtney; Dr. Jeffrey Pan (Dr. Jennifer Ng); Dr. Jason Pan; and Dr. Katelyn Pan. Her loving memory will forever be in the hearts of her eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Adored sister of Dr. King Tong Ng (late Amy Ng) of Staten Island NY; Dr. King Wai Ng (Siu Hing Ng) of Queens, NY; Late King Leung Ng (Mei Fung) of Queens, NY; Late King Fei Ng; Late King Tao Ng; as well as her many nieces, nephews and Hong family.
Linda will forever love all her family and friends and we will gather in honor and remembrance of Linda’s life during visiting hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, March 7 from 9 to 11 a.m. and for her funeral service celebrated from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
