MELROSE — Sit ‘n Knit, 167 West Emerson St. in Melrose, will participate in the 2025 Greater Boston Yarn Crawl. During the Yarn Crawl, 16 local yarn stores welcome visitors from around the region to explore new yarns, find new community events, and entered to win luxurious prizes. The Greater Boston Yarn Crawl has been a feature of the region’s crafting community for more than a decade. During the event, “crawlers” print out their passport and have it stamped at each store they visit. The more stamps they collect, the better their chances of winning a grand prize valued at more than $400. The event is about more than just shopping; the Crawl builds community by encouraging participants to new places, try new yarns, and make some new crafting-adjacent friends.
Crawlers can also make the “Yarn Crawl Shawl,” available in both knit and crochet versions on Ravelry; the patterns are free through the yarn crawl for participants. Stores have special gifts for participants who visit during the event wearing their Crawl Shawl.
“We’re thrilled to be celebrating over a decade of the Greater Boston Yarn Crawl,” said Ande Lockwood of Craftworks Yarn & Gift shop in Northborough. “Every shop brings something different to the table — it’s like a fiber festival spread across the region! This event is a wonderful opportunity to support local businesses, discover new projects, and of course, stock up on gorgeous yarn.”
The fiber arts, particularly knitting and crocheting, have seen a major upswing in popularity since the COVID-19 pandemic. With trending videos on TikTok, snapshots of celebrities with their fiber crafts, and studies showing the benefits of knitting and crocheting on mental wellness, a new generation of crafters has picked up hooks and needles to explore the process of fiber creation.
