LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield Athletic Association will be hosting the 52nd annual Fourth of July 5K Road Race on America’s birthday.

The highly anticipated summertime road race raises funds for scholarships for Lynnfield High School student-athletes. The LAA awarded 10 scholarships totaling $1,500 each during Senior Awards Night earlier this spring.

The cost to enter the road race is $25 for adults and $20 for people under the age of 18.

The road race’s course is predominately flat and the route takes runners through quiet neighborhood streets. There is one short hill.

“It’s a fun race for all,” LAA President Amy Nardone stated on the LAA’s website. “Wear your red, white and blue and join in the fun.”

If a runner registers before Friday, June 30, they will receive a festive cotton T-shirt.

Check-in and race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The race will begin at 9 a.m.

The LAA will be hosting an awards ceremony and a raffle after the Fourth of July Road Race concludes. Awards will be presented to the finishers in each of the following categories:

• Overall first place.

• Top finisher from LHS.

• Age 70+: First, second and third place

• Age 60-69: First, second and third place.

• Age 50-59: First, second and third place.

• Age 40-49: First, second and third place.

• Age 30-39: First, second and third place.

• Age 20-29: First, second and third place.

• Age 15-19: First, second and third place.

• Age 11-14: First, second and third place.

• Under 10: First, second and third place.

If a resident is out of town on July 4, they can participate in LAA’s second annual virtual race.

“A virtual race can be run or walked anytime or anywhere, including indoors on a treadmill,” said Nardone.

The cost for entering the virtual race is $25 for adults and $20 for people under the age of 18. Virtual race participants will receive a text message that will remind them to lace up their sneakers on the morning of July 4.

“So there is no confusion, registering for the LAA July 4 Virtual 5K Race does not enter you into the actual 2019 LAA July 4 5K,” Nardone stated. “All virtual 5K race participants will receive an LAA July 4 5K race T-shirt.”

The 52nd annual LAA Fourth of July Road Race’s sponsors are Eastern Bank, Four Points by Sheraton, Giugliano Corp. General Contractors, Lahey Health, the Law Offices of Colonna and Doyle, Lynnfield Rotary, MarketStreet Lynnfield, Moynihan Lumber, North Shore Bank, attorney Stephanie Perry, Supino Insurance, The Savings Bank, Wakefield Co-operative Bank and the YMCA of Metro North.
