HAMILTON — On Dec. 19, the Lynnfield High boys’ basketball team won at Hamilton-Wenham 46-34. This game was scheduled for the night before but was postponed due to the weather.
With the win, the Pioneers improved to 2-0 overall and in the Cape Ann League while the Generals fell to 0-2 overall and in the league.
Lynnfield trailed at halftime, 22-19, but rebounded in the third quarter as they outscored the Generals by 10 points to go into the final eight minutes leading by seven.
“We started knocking down shots and scored in the paint more,” explained Pioneers head coach John Bakopolus, about the turnaround.
Junior forward, Alex Fleming, led the way for the team as he had 17 points and 12 rebounds. Right behind him was Chris Daniels who had 16 points and 11 boards.
One player that stood out for Bakopolus was sophomore Harris Hadzihasanovic who had a team-high five steals to go with eight points.
“He gave us that spark we needed in the second half,” said Bakopolus, about the sophomore guard who was on the Pioneers’ junior varsity team last year.
On Dec. 27, in the Patriot Holiday Tournament, they play the host team, Revere, at 5 p.m.
They will then either play East Boston or Malden in the championship or consolation game the next day (time to be determined).
Lynnfield then returns to Cape Ann League action on Jan. 3 as they host rival North Reading at 6:30 p.m.
